We offer both accredited, practical training and informal information sessions to suit different roles, experience levels and organisational needs. Explore the options below to find the training that best fits your organisation or professional role.

52862WA – Course in Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitting

This accredited course provides participants with the knowledge to provide advice and consumer information about different types of child car seats, their suitability for use, and the consequences of non-use or incorrect use.

Participants also develop the skills to inspect existing installations, correctly fit child car seats into vehicles, and provide clear advice on correct installation and use.

Graduates of the Western Australian course are registered as a Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitter.

Participants receive hands-on training covering topics such as:

  • child car seat types and age and size requirements
  • correct installation methods and common fitting errors
  • adjusting child car seats for growing children
  • understanding Australian Standards and legal requirements, and
  • communicating child car seat safety information clearly to parents and carers.

This course is suitable for professionals working in road safety, community services, health, early childhood, retail or related fields who require a detailed technical understanding of child car seat fitting and safety.

Child Car Seat Safety Information Sessions


WALGA’s Child Car Seat Safety Information Sessions provide a general overview of child car seat safety without the formal assessment requirements.

These sessions are designed to:

  • build general awareness of correct child car seat use

  • explain different restraint types and when they should be used

  • highlight common installation and use issues, and

  • support staff who provide general advice or information to families.

Information sessions are ideal for organisations and industry professionals who need a foundational understanding of child car seat safety but do not install or fit restraints as part of their role.

Refresher Training

Refresher training is provided through WALGA’s RoadWise Program to ensure Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitters maintain current knowledge and skills to install and inspect child car seats and provide accurate advice to clients.
