RoadWise Councils

RoadWise Councils

RoadWise Councils is a WALGA initiative that proactively engages and supports Local Governments to adopt and apply aligned policies and practices, enabling an effective and sustainable contribution to road safety goals in Western Australia.

Benefits of Becoming a RoadWise Council

  • Local Governments that register as a RoadWise Council receive targeted support to strengthen road safety outcomes in their communities.
  • A guaranteed minimum level of support through dedicated Road Safety Advisor hours.
  • Exclusive use of the RoadWise Council badge to demonstrate commitment to improving road safety.
  • Direct access to WALGA’s road safety services, tools and resources, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Automatic participation in the RoadWise Recognised initiative, acknowledging progress towards best practice and access to incentives.

Registered RoadWise Councils

Seventy-five (75) Local Governments, spread across rural, remote and metropolitan areas of WA are registered as a RoadWise Council. These Councils work with a dedicated Road Safety Advisor to plan, deliver, evaluate and communicate local road safety actions, guided by the RoadWise Framework, to better apply Safe System practices and principles.

Become a RoadWise Council

To become a RoadWise Council, Local Governments need to demonstrate a commitment to road safety and regular engagement through either:

  • a formal Declaration signed by the Chief Executive Officer and President or Mayor, or

  • a resolution of the full Council.

Local Governments must also nominate key contacts (Elected Members and/or Officers) for road safety matters.

To express interest in becoming a RoadWise Council

RoadWise Recognised

RoadWise Recognised inspires participating Councils to strengthen road safety practices and demonstrate progress toward improved local road safety outcomes.
