Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitters

Type 1 Child Car Restraint Fitters are trained to install and inspect child car seats. WA-authorised Type 1 Fitters provide professional fitting and checking services to the community.

Depending on the provider, these services may be offered free of charge or on a fee-for-service basis.

Type 2 Child Restraint Fitters

After-Market Anchorage Point Fitters

Occasionally, vehicles require additional child car seat anchorage points, or some older sedans, wagons, commercial vehicles and 4WD vehicles may not have child car seat anchorage points installed.

If new or additional child car seat anchorage points are required (called after-market anchorage points), they must be either:

  • installed by a Type 2 Child Restraint Fitting Station officer, who will issue a modification plate, or
  • checked by a Type 2 Child Restraint Fitting Station officer or an Authorised Inspection Station (for an existing modification), after which a modification permit is issued.

To find a Type 2 Child Restraint Fitting Station near you, view the Department of Transport’s Fitting Child Car Restraints document.

For more information about Authorised Inspection Stations, visit the Department of Transport’s Get a vehicle inspected webpage.
