2024-25 State and Federal Budget Analysis
WALGA provides analysis here for both the 2024-25 State and Federal Budgets for our Member Councils, Elected Members and stakeholders in the Local Government sector.
Federal
The Federal Government handed down the 2024-25 Budget on 14 May 2024.
Against a backdrop of global economic uncertainty and high levels of inflation, the 2024-25 Federal Budget was focussed on providing cost of living relief and investing in new industry development.
Importantly for Local Governments, the Budget retained its commitment to a number of key funding programs for the sector. However it missed the opportunity to invest in key priorities identified in WALGA’s Federal Budget Submission.
State
The State Government handed down the 2024-25 Budget on May 9 2024.
WALGA is pleased to see funding provided in a number of areas that will support Local Governments to deliver important services to their communities, but disappointed to see key initiatives such as support for bushfire volunteers has been neglected despite a multi-billion dollar surplus.
WALGA will continue to leverage the collective strength and influence of the Local Government sector for the benefit of WA Local Governments and their communities through the imminent launch of our 2024-25 State Election advocacy platform and campaign.
