Local Government Transport & Roads Research & Innovation Program (LG TRRIP)

The Local Government Transport & Roads Research & Innovation Program (LG TRRIP) was created in response to a need for research to be targeted for the Local Government audience.

WALGA identified the need for research that is more accessible and easier to reference by decision-makers and practitioners within Local Government.

How does this program support Local Government?

There is a critical lack of practical resources for Local Government practitioners in the Infrastructure area. This program provides reference material and research documents tailored specifically to the Local Government context and seeks to address issues of particular relevance to the sector.

The program employs the following approach:

  • Local Government practitioners identify project topics
  • The Operations Team prepares project briefs and shortlists topics
  • Expert consultants are appointed to conduct the research with Local Government oversight.

The program is administered via the Western Australian Road Research and Innovation Program (WARRIP) with input from WALGA.

Three projects were completed in 2023:

1. Low-cost road safety improvements for rural Local Government roads in WA

2. Considerations for Sealing Local Government Roads in WA, and

3. Sustainable road construction practices for Local Government roads in WA

Summaries of each project can be found below.
