The Large Scale Renewable Energy Projects Forum was held on Wednesday, 27 November 2024 and was attended by 70 delegates, with 50 representatives from 16 different Local Governments.
WALGA acknowledges the diverse range of views on the renewable energy transition and the urgent need to support Local Governments in navigating discussions with proponents.
Speaker presentations included The Shire of Hay (NSW) – Community Participation for Strength and Leadership; DEMIRS/Energy Policy WA – WA’s Energy Transition; Powering WA - WA’s Renewable Energy Planning Framework; Clean Energy Council – Clean Energy Status & Outlook.
WALGA will continue to advocate to the Government on the sector advocacy positions endorsed by the State Council and provide information and resources to support Local Governments in addressing this critical issue.
Interested Local Governments can find the following resources discussed during the Forum:
WALGA Research Paper – This paper explores the energy transition landscape in Australia, with a focus on WA. It includes the results from the Energy Transition Sentiment survey we conducted a few months ago.
State Council endorsed advocacy positions – At the September State Council meeting, three sector positions related to the renewable energy transition were endorsed. These form the basis of WALGA’s advocacy to the State Government.
Planning resource – The electronic version of "Empowering Local Governments - Planning for Renewable Energy" provides an overview of the State and Local planning frameworks and tools available to Local Governments for managing renewable energy facility development. It also outlines the three development assessment pathways for renewable energy proponents. We welcome your feedback on this document at [email protected].
