WALGA congratulates all of the deserving winners of Showcase in Pixels 2025.

On 27 November, seven talented artists were awarded for their excellent works as category winners for Showcase in Pixels 2025. The theme – Design the Future – invited artists to explore how they see the world evolving over the coming years.

This year’s Showcase in Pixels received more than 300 submissions from across Western Australia. The calibre of work WALGA received made it incredibly hard for the judges to decide and they were overwhelmed by the amount of artistic flair and talent there is in our communities. Well done to everyone who participated and to those who attended the Awards where the stunning works were showcased on the digital tower in the heart of Yagan Square.

Thank you as well to our judging panel who volunteered their time and expertise to recognise and acknowledge the promising aptitude of WALGA’s Member Councils’ community members. We hope to have everyone again with us next year.

WINNER  Darkan Primary School Tomorrow's Horizon
Shire of West Arthur

Our artwork is like looking through a window into the future of Darkan. We used textured prints to make the rolling hills we see every day, then layered wind turbines spinning across the horizon. The hills remind us of the land we love, and the turbines remind us of clean energy and new ideas. Tomorrow’s Horizon is how we imagine a bright, exciting, and sustainable future for our Shire.

Junior Primary School

 WINNER  Isabella Yee Sa Leong
City of Canning

This artwork was painted digitally on my iPad. I enjoyed working on it for two weeks. My painting is inspired by my favourite thing about Western Australia — the beautiful water bodies. I love going fishing with my dad, and I feel sad when I think about pollution in the sea and rivers. In the future, I imagine the sea will be a happy place for all sea creatures and humans because its beauty will be restored. I think Marina Bots will be invented to collect trash and waste that pollute the ocean. A Marina Bot is a cool robot with special arms that can pick up and sort trash that chokes or traps sea animals. It can even dive deep into the sea and reach places that are too dangerous or impossible for humans to clean. The Marina Bot has strong metal arms with sensors that can tell the difference between rubbish and sea creatures, so it doesn’t hurt them. It also has a big storage tank to keep the collected trash safely until it can be recycled. This will help save sea creatures like sea turtles and octopuses. I’m hopeful that technology like Marina Bots will help clean the rivers and seas so many more generations can enjoy the beauty of nature.

Upper Primary School

WINNER  Quinton Yong The DNA Hospital Space Elevator
City of Nedlands

My space elevator takes you from Earth all the way to the Moon! Each level has something cool like a DNA train with animals riding inside and a hospital at the top for fixing people. I used rainbow colours to show all the different floors going up into space!

Secondary School

 WINNER  Dustie Sutherland Gaia’s Sacrifice
City of Cockburn

My painting portrays a grief-stricken Gaia, Mother Nature from Greek mythology - the life-giver, nurturer, and protector of the earth. I used acrylic paint on canvas with Posca pens to portray her strength and beauty in my own distinctive expressive style. Gaia is inspired by my mother, the one who gave me life. I believe humanity has long forgotten its place within nature, drawing invisible borders across the world, claiming ownership, and allowing greed and pride to divide us. We were raised to believe we are superior to all other beings, yet the damage we inflict reveals the opposite. In my artwork, nature rises again to reclaim what was once hers. Gaia weeps as she realises that her greatest creation has turned against her. Her tears represent both her sorrow and resolve, an acknowledgment that to restore balance, she may have to undo what she began. This painting is both a warning and an expression of my sincere hope as a young person that humanity reflects and acts, before it’s too late. We need to care for the earth, protect her gifts, and remember that saving her is the same as saving ourselves.

Secondary School

 Honourable Mention  Ellinah Shin
City of Cockburn

In the future, I believe humans could live on different planets. I remember watching news and documentaries on how scientists are trying to figure out how humans could travel to different planets and start a new life, this always fascinated me. In my artwork, it features a futuristic girl walking through flowers on the surface of mars, the flowers represent being the first form of life on mars, the girls clothing presents a futuristic fashion and style and the reason the girl is on mars is because mars is the closest to a habitable environment for people in our solar system.

Individual Non-Professional

 WINNER  Abhijit Prasanth
Town of Mosman Park

I’m an Architectural 3D Artist who does conceptual 3D Art as a hobby as well. The artwork was created digitally in a 3D Modelling software. Living in Mosman Park for the last 3 years, some of the things that stood out to me the most would be the picturesque nature, beachfronts and the iconic Obelisk standing proud atop Buckland Hill. I’ve tried to imagine a future where we integrate nature and technology, with stations intertwined with trees, and our beautiful beaches blooming with corals along with some happy underwater visitors.

Individual Professional

 WINNER  Stefanie Palladino
City of Canning

During the Metronet upgrade, the big red gantry cranes Yira and Kediny left a big impression on me. And as a Transformers fan, I wondered what they would look like as Noongar-coded Transformers characters assisting humans build bigger and brighter futures? Yira and his aunty Kediny are here to help.

People's Choice Award

WINNER  Shiwen Shao Flying Cars and Bubble Buildings
City of Stirling

In my future, people fly around in round spaceship cars above a beautiful city! The buildings are super tall and there are glass domes everywhere protecting nature inside. Green parks, trees, and a river wind through the city. I used soft blue and green watercolors to make it peaceful!
