The Local Government Honours Awards are set to recognise and celebrate the exceptional achievements and lasting contributions of Elected Members and officers within the Local Government sector, and the wider community.

All Local Government Elected Members and Officers are eligible for nomination. The Honours Panel, established by State Council, will evaluate nominees based on their character, integrity, and proper conduct. This independent panel ensures a fair, unbiased, and depoliticised selection process.

The 2025 Honours Awards include several prestigious categories:

  • Local Government Medal: For exceptional service, achievements, and contributions to the Local Government sector.
  • WALGA Life Membership: For outstanding service and contributions to WALGA and its Members over a long period, and representation of WALGA with distinction.
  • Eminent Service Award: For significant and distinguished participation and contribution to WALGA, Local Government, and/or the Local Government sector. Recognises leadership and commitment to Local Government.
  • Merit Award: For notable contributions and service to WALGA, Local Government, and/or the Local Government sector.
  • Troy Pickard Young Achievers Award: For noteworthy contributions to Local Government, demonstrated leadership, and commitment to professional development.

To nominate a deserving individual, download the Nomination Kit, which includes all necessary requirements and forms.

Mayor Logan Howlett of the City of Cockburn, a 2024 WALGA Life Membership recipient, encourages participation in the Honours Awards.

"Within your Local Government, there will be someone deserving of being nominated to recognise their outstanding achievements and lasting contributions to the sector. So put pen to paper before the closing date, ensuring you follow the defined guidelines for one or more of the six categories reflected in the Honours Awards and bring a sense of recognition and pride to potential recipients in what is a very competitive process," he said.

These awards are a fantastic opportunity to highlight the dedication and hard work of individuals who have significantly contributed to the Local Government sector.
