WA to further ease COVID-19 measures from 29 April

The Health Minister has announced that most mask wearing requirements, density and capacity limits, proof of vaccination, G2G Pass requirements and quarantining for asymptomatic close contacts protocols will end from 12:01am Friday, 29 April.

The further easing is based on the latest advice from the Chief Health Officer that WA’s COVID-19 caseload peaked four weeks ago, triple dose vaccination rates are approaching 80 per cent and that case numbers, hospitalisations and ICU admission rates are stable and lower than anticipated.

From 12:01am Friday 29 April:

Masks, while encouraged, particularly where physical distancing isn't possible, will no longer be mandatory except for those aged 12 and over in the following settings:
- hospitals
- residential aged care
- disability services facilities
- correctional facilities
- airports
- public transport, rideshare and taxi services, and other passenger transport.
The two square metre rule and capacity limits will be removed for venues, businesses, stadiums and events.
COVID Safety and Event Plans will no longer be mandatory, but are encouraged.
Proof of vaccination requirements to visit venues and business will be removed, except for hospitals and residential aged care facilities
- Mandatory workplace vaccination requirements remain in place.
Asymptomatic close contacts will not need to isolate, but must:
- undertake a daily RAT
- wear a mask when leaving the house
- avoid high-risk settings
- work from home, where possible
- avoid non-essential gatherings and contact with people at risk of severe illness
- notify their employer/educational facility of their close contact status.
Symptomatic close contacts with symptoms must continue to isolate until symptoms resolve and get tested as per existing protocols.
If a close contact tests positive, they must isolate for a further 7 days as per arrangements for positive COVID-19 cases.
Domestic and international arrivals into WA will no longer require a G2G Pass or triple dose vaccination
- Double dose vaccination requirement for international arrivals will continue as per Australian Government requirements and unvaccinated Australian international arrivals will continue to be required to quarantine for 7 days.
Travel to remote Aboriginal communities remains restricted.
Remaining school and early childhood measures removed, with more RATs provided.
