As part of WALGA’s support to the sector in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Association is holding webinars to inform members of legislative or operational changes as they arise; and to share activity being undertaken across the sector.

Webinar: COVID-19 Considerations for Events

Local Government has several roles in events, including hosting key events for the community and a regulatory role regarding COVID-19 events plans. On Monday 28 March, WALGA held a webinar focusing on the considerations for events in the current COVID-19 context. The webinar included a presentation and Q&A session with Jaala Downes, Senior Scientific Officer, Department of Health and Superintendent Stuart Hartzenberg and Detective Inspector Greg Cunningham, attached to Compliance & Assurance Division, Operation TIDE. COVID-19 Insights from Other States

WALGA Employee Relations hosted a joint webinar with the Local Government Associations of New South Wales, South Australia, and Queensland on Thursday, 17 March 2022. This webinar explores some of the approaches and practices adopted by Local Governments in other Australian jurisdictions to manage COVID-19 in the workplace.

Waste Management and COVID-19

HR Responses to COVID-19 Breakfast Seminar

WALGA hosted a breakfast seminar on Friday, 29 October 2021 on the HR challenges Local Governments are facing in response to COVID-19. The seminar included discussion on the impending vaccination requirements and impacts for the sector including responsibilities and operational considerations for Local Governments as employers.

Local Government Showcase - Economic Stimulus

Thursday, 21 May
WALGA’s Policy Manager, Economics provided an economic update to assist members in their Strategic and Operational Planning for 2020-21 in the context of recovering from COVID-19.  The City of Karratha and Shire of East Pilbara shared information on the economic support and stimulus their Local Governments are providing to assist their rate payers, small business and community groups.

The City of Vincent, Shire of Augusta Margaret River and City of Albany presented on their approach and initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic, including community messaging, youth engagement, and how they have kept the community linked to services and local businesses.

Wednesday, 22 April
The webinar includes a presentation from the Shires of Bruce Rock on how their Local Government and community overcame the challenge of losing their general store to fire at the beginning of the pandemic. The City of Joondalup and Shire of Denmark present on the changes their Local Governments have made to continue to serve their community throughout this crisis.
