2026 Scholarship Nominations Now Open

WALGA Training is proud to launch the Future Leaders Scholarship.

The Future Leaders Scholarship supports Local Government Officers to undertake the LGA50120 Diploma of Local Government, strengthening capability across governance, legislation and decision-making.

The program is designed for practical application in the workplace, equipping participants with the knowledge, judgement and confidence to contribute effectively to governance processes, manage risk, and engage with stakeholders in complex Local Government environments.

Developed in close consultation with the WA Local Government sector, the qualification reflects current workforce needs and supports Officers to progress from operational experience to professional expertise.

Future Leaders Scholarship Overview

Six scholarships are available across metropolitan and regional WA, providing targeted support for staff growth and workforce development within your organisation.

  • 2 x Metro and/or Peel Scholarships 
  • 4 x Regional Scholarships

The scholarship will cover 25% of training and assessment fees up to the value of $3,000. 

Nominations open on Tuesday, 9 June 2026 and close Friday, 10 July 2026, 12:00pm.

Eligibility Requirement

To qualify for the Future Leaders Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be currently employed at a WA Local Government 
  • Have 3-5 years’ experience in the Local Government or another sector

LGA50120 Diploma of Local Government Information

  • Course Commencement: Thursday, 3 September 2026.
  • Duration: 18 months. Scholarship must be completed within 24 months.
  • Attendance: Participants are required to attend 4 weekly 3.5-hour virtual classroom sessions via Zoom for each Unit of Competency (UoC). 
    Additionally, participants enrolled in the Town Planning stream must attend a two-day in-person workshop held at WALGA’s offices at the commencement of the Town Planning units.
  • Time commitment: In addition to attending the training, participants need to allow approx. 10 hours per week for reading and research and preparing for individual assessment tasks for each UoC.
