The WALGA Road Condition Assessment Manual (first published in 2016) is a critical resource for Local Governments in evaluating the status of their road networks and sets out a replicable, reliable, and accurate methodology for logging defects and computing condition indices.
After a comprehensive review and consultation, WALGA is pleased to release the revised WALGA Road Condition Assessment Manual. The Manual revisions are not fundamental. However, they do update the Manual to reflect current practices in the road condition assessment area, including a recognition of modern data collection technologies (e.g. AI). Several other significant changes are summarised below and also in the document itself (Table 1).
- Addition of Pavement Roughness Assessment
- Guidance for AI-assisted Condition Assessment
- Improved Quality Assurance and Inspector Calibration Framework
- Improved Defect Definitions and Recording Guidance
- Refinement of Defect Rating Thresholds and Measurement Methods
- Improvements to Condition Index Calculations
These changes ensure that the Manual continues to be relevant and current, while also maintaining compatibility with AWM (formerly RAMM) and historic data.
This webinar will provide an overview of the process to update the Manual and summarise the significant changes. There will be an opportunity for questions.
