The Early Childhood Dental Program Commissioning Team are hosting World Oral Health Day Symposium for 2024.
This year's theme is "A Happy Mouth is a Healthy Body: The Role of Oral Health in Early Childhood Health and Development."
The symposium will take place Wednesday, March 20, at the Perth Children's Hospital Auditorium (Level 5). This event aligns with World Oral Health Day.
Presentations will include:
- Dr Gillian MacGillivray (Chief Dental Officer) will shed light on why Early Childhood Dental Disease is a priority in Western Australia and its implications for children and families.
- Terri Barrett (Nurse Director, CAHS) and Trulie Pinnegar (A/Director Population Health, WACHS) will delve into the crucial role of Child Health Nurses in providing comprehensive oral health education and screening for children in Western Australia
- Dr Kylee Cox (Project Director, Early Childhood Dental Program) will walk us through this exciting new program that will promote oral health among young children and their families in WA. Kylee will discuss education, screening, referral pathways and treatment methods
- Explore the successes and challenges of providing dental care for refugee children under 5 years old with insights from Dr Sarah Cherian and Dr Jilen Patel, experts in General Paediatrics and Dental Medicine.
- Dr Jilen Patel shares key learnings from the pilot implementation of the Early Years Partnership Dental Program in the Central Great Southern region and the lessons learned for effective oral health initiatives in early childhood.
- Dr Peter Arrow explores the impact of minimally invasive treatments in effectively managing Early Childhood Caries.
