Last week, WALGA’s Policy Manager for Waste and Recycling Rebecca Brown travelled to the Shire of Carnarvon to deliver Waste Management Training.

Working with the Shire of Carnarvon, the training was delivered to key members of the Shire’s Waste, People and Culture and Environment teams, in addition to members of Real Futures Carnarvon, an initiative that offers support to those looking for work and transitioning into employment.

Waste Management is an essential service provided by, or on behalf of, Local Government for households. It is a complex area, with many opportunities to improve Local Governments' environmental, social and economic performance.

WALGA has developed training to cover the identification and segregation of waste and recoverable materials, waste avoidance and education, and behaviour change in relation to waste management.
The training focused on waste and landfill management, with the group developing lots of ideas on how to improve practices and work more with the community.

As a Registered Training Organisation, (RTO CODE 51992) WALGA provides up-to-date, relevant, tailored training solutions for Councils, Elected Members and Local Government Officers by offering professional development, industry updates and best practice for Local Government.
