The WALGA Planning and Building team has been nominated in the 2023 Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) awards for our work facilitating the Local Government Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Planning (CHRMAP) Forum.
The Forum meets regularly to discuss and resolve common challenges, influence policy, and prepare resources to support the implementation of coastal hazard management plans.
WALGA’s commitment to the sector through the CHRMAP Forum has been recognised through our nomination in the Climate Change and Resilience category of this year’s PIA awards.
This award recognises projects and initiatives that provide outstanding leadership and innovation, fostering a positive impact on addressing climate change that can be held up as a case study of best practice for the planning profession.
In 2017, the CHRMAP Forum was established by WALGA’s Planning and Building and Environment Teams to support Local Governments with coastal hazard risk management and adaptation planning responsibilities as outlined in State Planning Policy 2.6: State Coastal Planning Policy.
Rather than following the traditional format of a simple networking group, the CHRMAP Forum’s objective is to be proactive, and outcome focused, driving meaningful outcomes for the sector.
This is achieved through,
-
having a diverse range of members
-
providing opportunities for members to actively participate engage and collaborate
-
developing relationships with key stakeholders, and
-
inviting outside expert presentations to ensure the Forum is cognisant of new research, methodologies, and best practice.
The collaboration the Forum fosters has allowed for the delivery of key projects such as discussion papers and policy submissions, and the undertaking of research to improve practice and drive positive change.
Congratulations to WALGA’s Planning Policy Team, Chris Hossen, Lucy Sheehy, and Ashley Robb, for the recognition of their efforts in delivering such a high calibre program to the sector.
Winners will be announced at the Awards for Planning Excellence Gala on Friday, 17 November.
