On Friday 10 November, WALGA officially welcomed newly Elected Members with the New Councillor Seminar.
A total of 130 new Councillors attended the event, either in person or via live stream.
Attendees were treated to a full day of interesting and important topics, presented by some of the best in their field, including WALGA’s own President Karen Chappel, Nick Sloan and Tony Brown, supported by:
- Hon David Michael MLA, Minister for Ports; Local Government; Road Safety; Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport
- Cr Mischa Stratford from the Shire of Wyalkatchem
- Anthony Quahe, Managing Principal at Civic Legal
- City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin and CEO Michael Parker
- Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries Director General Lanie Chopping
- LGIS CEO James Sheridan
- Donna Shaw, Director of Development and Community Services at the City of South Perth, and
- Mayor Rhys Williams from the City of Mandurah
The event provided an opportunity for new Councillors to meet their peers, learn more about the sector, and develop an initial understanding of the importance of their role, and what it means to effectively serve their community.
