Main Roads WA recently released an updated guideline for pedestrian crossing facilities, which significantly amends the criteria for implementing pedestrian crossings.
The newly released Application and Technical Guidelines for Pedestrian Crossing Facilities have significant updates including changes to the process, criteria, and assessment method for implementing pedestrian crossings across the WA road network.
The Safe System approach, Movement and Place, pedestrian volumes, and traffic speeds are considered in substantively different ways in the guideline, among other elements.
Notably, the guidelines also include provisions for the inclusion of zebra crossings at single-lane roundabouts.
