“WALGA Boss Karen Chappel slams attempts to withhold vital biosecurity information on the invasive borer”

WALGA President Karen Chappel AM JP has called on the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) to share all Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB) information with Local Governments in an article published in yesterday’s The West Australian.

“We need to act fast to help stop the spread of the Borer. In order for Local Governments to act they need the most up-to-date information about the location of infected trees. Any attempt to withhold this information is unacceptable,” the President said.

“If we catch PSHB early, we can potentially save the tree and reduce the overall impact of this pest on our ever-dwindling urban tree canopy.”

Yesterday’s article supports ongoing advocacy by WALGA in July 2024 which has called on the State Government to intensify its PSHB eradication efforts, in line with WALGA’s 2025 State Election Priorities.
