The Commonwealth Government is proposing changes to the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) following the Independent Review of Commonwealth Disaster Funding (Colvin Review). Further information is available on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Website.
Key elements of the proposal include:
  • Standardised assistance packages
  • A 50/50 funding partnership between the Australian and state and territory governments
  • Revised thresholds for accessing disaster funding
  • A Resilient Infrastructure Scheme, with up to 15 per cent of costs shared with jurisdictions

WALGA is seeking feedback on how the proposed changes may impact your Local Government, including:
  • Your top priorities for streamlining DRFA?
  • Input on an appropriate threshold for activating DRFA funding, noting the current threshold in Western Australia is $240,000.
  • Whether the proposed Resilient Infrastructure Scheme, of up to 15 per cent cost shared between the Commonwealth and states, sufficient to support betterment of essential public assets?
  • How the Australian Government should invest in disaster resilience before disasters occur?

Please provide you feedback to [email protected].

WALGA is seeking further information from NEMA and will provide updates to this page as they become available.
