Consultation on proposed new Disaster Recovery Funding Framework
The Australian Government is consulting on a proposed new Disaster Recovery Funding Framework (DRFF), which is intended to replace the current Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

This is the mechanism through which the Commonwealth and State Governments support individuals, businesses and communities to recover from significant disasters; including funding reconstruction of essential public assets, most of which are managed by Local Governments.

WALGA has undertaken an initial review of the proposed framework and developed a draft submission outlining the key considerations and recommendations from a Western Australian Local Government perspective. It is anticipated that this submission will be further developed once it becomes clearer how the State Government will implement any new framework in WA.

All Local Governments have received an invitation to provide feedback on the proposed reforms and the draft WALGA submission. This will ensure the final submission reflects the experiences, priorities and concerns of Western Australian Local Governments.

CEOs are invited to provide feedback on the proposed framework and WALGA’s draft submission by Monday, 27 July.

Further updates will be provided as the consultation process progresses.
