WALGA has long been aware that many regional Councils are very concerned that the renewable energy industry – particularly windfarms – can be forced onto communities without any community social or community benefit.
This ongoing feedback has been received through WALGA zone meetings, at the 2024 LG Convention, at State Council and via forums like the Large Scale Renewable Energy Projects Forum, held on Wednesday, 27 November 2024
An article was published in the Sunday Times Sunday, 5 January 2024, through online newspapers affiliated with Sunday Times/The West, as well as on ABC TV.
WALGA President Karen Chappel also penned an ‘Op-ed’ piece (Locals must have input in renewable plans and the answer is blowing in the Wind) that appeared alongside the Sunday Times article, espousing that WALGA and Member Local Governments want to see an agreed guidelines framework produced by the State Government, to assist industry proponents and Local Governments entering renewables discussions.
