Aboriginal Preferred Supplier Program

Aboriginal Business as WALGA Preferred Suppliers

In April 2025 WALGA hosted its first ever Aboriginal Elected Member Roundtable, where participants highlighted the need for Local Governments to do more to increase employment of local Aboriginal people.  Following the Roundtable, WALGA undertook to increase inclusion of Aboriginal business through the Preferred Supplier Panels.

This activity strongly aligns with WALGA's strategic pillars by supporting Member needs, and providing practical sector wide solutions.  the inclusion of Aboriginal businesses assists Members to meet their own policies and procurement goals.

In mid 2025 WALGA arranged a special project to identify and tender for a greater presence of Aboriginal Businesses in the WALGA Preferred Supplier Program (PSP).  Following this WALGA updated its regular business process to give greater visibility and opportunity for Aboriginal Businesses to Tender for access to WALGA Panels through regular PSP activity.

The above project activity also aligns with WALGA's Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) which specifically includes a commitment for the identification of Aboriginal Business on our Preferred Supplier Directory.  New search functionality has been introduced to filter to easily identify Aboriginal Business within each Panel and category of the WALGA PSP.

The PSP is a procurement option for WALGA Members to purchase goods, services and works from a range of pre-qualified suppliers.  It is not mandated to Members, but offers the benefits of pre-qualification, tender exempt access, and administrative efficiency.  WALGA does not make buying decisions for Members, however extends the PSP medium for easy access to quotation based procurement under a robust contracting model.

WALGA's ongoing vision is to advance economic inclusion by continually enhancing the presence of Aboriginal business on the PSP.

WALGA encourages business registered with the Aboriginal Business Directory WA, Noongar Chamber of Commerce, and Supply Nation to apply for WALGA's pre-qualification tenders to enhancing your visibility to the sector and have access to significantly recognised and respected procurement option for WALGA Members.
