Under the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA) (EO Act), Local Governments in Western Australia have a statutory obligation to:
  • report on activities and programs to eliminated discrimination; and  
  • develop and provide an equal employment opportunity (EEO) management plan,
to the Director of Equal Opportunity in Public Employment (Director).

The State Government’s mandatory vaccination policy is being implemented by the Government through individually published Public Health Directions (PH Directions) made under the Public Health Act 2016 (WA). The Government is currently releasing separate PH Directions for each of the occupations in Group 1 of the Government’s policy. The PH Directions restrict entry to certain facilities unless the person is appropriately vaccinated.

Yesterday, WALGA met with Local Government Minister John Carey and the Deputy Health Officer, Dr Clare Huppatz, as part of the Local Government and Waste Roundtable to provide input into the development of Directions which will give legal force to the Government’s Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination announcement.
