
Overview
The LGASS00007 Elected Member - Skill Set program is the ideal continuation from the Council Members Essentials training, covering three (3) Units of Competency; LGAMEM001 Meet elected member responsibilities, LGAMEM002 Perform elected member functions, and LGACOR011 Analyse financial reports and budgets. It also acts as a pathway to the LGA50220 Diploma of Local Government - Elected Member.
This Nationally Recognised Training Program enables Elected Members to gain a deeper understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements and their application to their role and responsibilities.It supports participants in building their confidence, enabling more effective participation in Council debate and greater contributions to the decision-making processes at their Local Government.
The program commences with a 1-day Foundation Workshop held at WALGA. This boot camp will provide a great platform for the participants to engage with their peers, meet their trainer and refresh their study skills. An overview on the many legislative changes which have occurred as part of the legislative Local Government reform will also be provided on the day.
Each Unit of Competency has a set of individual assessment tasks, requiring attendance to online mentoring sessions and approximately 15 hours of reading, research and completing each task. After successful completion of all assessment tasks, an AQF Statement of Attainment will be issued.

- Completion of the Council Member Essentials Training
- Participants must be a current or aspiring Elected Member for a Local Government in WA

Delivery Method
- The Skill Set commences with a Foundation Workshop delivered in person at WALGA’s premises in West Leederville, followed by virtual Mentoring Sessions on Zoom.
Training and Assessment Plan
Each UoC has a set of individual assessment tasks, requiring attendance to virtual Zoom mentoring sessions and approximately 15 hours of reading, research and completing each task. Assessments must be submitted at the listed due date in the Training and Assessment Plan, which you will be receive during enrolment.

Certification
On successful completion of this Skill Set, and if you have been found to be competent in relation to each of the Units of Competency, you will be issued with an AQF Statement of Attainment LGASS00007 Elected Member.
Future Pathway
Elected Members who then wish to continue their studies and enrol into the Diploma of Local Government - Elected Member qualification, can upgrade at any time. A Credit Transfer for the 3 successfully completed Units of Competency will be granted. The cost to upgrade to the Diploma is $8,400.00.
