2026 Jacqui Dodd Scholarship nominations now open

WALGA Training is proud to once again offer the prestigious Jacqui Dodd Scholarship.

Since 2021, this Scholarship, named in honour of the late Jacqui Dodd, former long-serving WALGA Training Services Manager, has been awarded to Metropolitan and Regional Elected Members.

The Scholarship supports Elected Members to undertake the LGA50220 Diploma of Local Government – Elected Member, the highest qualification an Elected Member can achieve through WALGA Training.

  • 2 x Metropolitan Scholarships
  • 2 x Regional Scholarships

The Scholarship covers 50% of training and assessment fees, up to $5,085, and provides additional travel expense compensation for regional applicants upon program completion.

Nominations open on Tuesday, 14 July 2026 and close Friday, 14 August 2026, 12.00pm.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Jacqui Dodd Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a current Elected Member
  • Have completed all Council Member Essentials training
  • Not have previously received the Scholarship

Diploma of Local Government – Elected Member

The LGA50220 Diploma of Local Government – Elected Member is the highest qualification available to Elected Members through WALGA Training.

The qualification enables Elected Members to strengthen their governance and leadership capabilities, confidently contribute to informed decision making and better serve their communities.

Applicants should carefully consider the commitment required before applying.

  • Course commences: Wednesday, 11 November 2026
  • Registration closes: Friday, 30 October 2026
  • Duration: 12–24 months. Scholarship recipients must complete the qualification within 18 months.
  • Attendance: Nine mandatory WALGA workshops delivered in West Leederville. Each workshop is followed by a one-hour online mentoring session to support assessment preparation.
  • Time commitment: In addition to attending training, participants should allow approximately 20–30 hours per unit for research, reading and assessment preparation.
