About the event

WALGA’s annual Local Government Planning Showcase will be held on Wednesday, 9 October 2024 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The Showcase is an opportunity for Local Government planners to connect with their peers and share new practice, policies and projects to foster relationships and share knowledge across the sector. The event highlights projects which demonstrate the breadth and depth of Local Government planning, crossing strategic and statutory planning across the State.  

The Showcase will include an opening address from the Minister for Planning; Lands; Housing; Homelessness – Hon John Carey BA MLA, and a presentation from Craig Slarke at McLeods Lawyers providing a planning legal update.

Jack is an urban generalist passionate about cities and everything that makes them tick. With ten years of experience in local government, working in both statutory and strategic planning roles, Jack is committed to developing planning frameworks that best enable places where communities prosper.

Anthony manages statutory and strategic planning, building, development compliance, heritage, and climate change. He was the vice president of the Local Government Planners’ Association from 2021 to 2023. He is passionate about integrating service delivery to enhance development outcomes.

Emily double majored in planning and environmental science, which gave her a keen interest in the synergies between urban planning and sustainability. She was the 2023 commendation recipient of the Planning Institute of Australia’s Young Planner of the Year Award.

Senior Planning Officer Heritage
Ronni has spent her whole career in Local Governments across the Metropolitan Area, working in both Strategic and Statutory Planning disciplines. Her team undertakes the development and review of the City’s Local Planning Policies, scheme amendments and more.

Matt has 36 years of experience in strategic planning, land use and development planning, planning in regional areas, and urban design. This includes 21 years of leadership and management experience and 9 years of experience in the private planning and urban design sector.

With over 20 years of experience in planning and development, Jo has been instrumental in shaping the City’s growth and ensuring sustainable development practices. She holds a degree in Law and a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning.

Craig practises primarily in litigation, mostly in planning reviews in the State Administrative Tribunal and in the Supreme Court jurisdiction. He is recognised as a pre-eminent planning and environmental lawyer and as the 2024 “Lawyer of the Year” in Planning and Environmental Law in Perth.

Luke has been active within the Local Government sector of Planning in WA since 2016. During that time, he has been exposed to a full range of Statutory and Strategic Planning projects that impact an entire local government area.

Monica has 13 years of experience in local government planning. She has a passion for interpreting planning jargon into easily accessible language for the wider community. Before completing her planning qualification, Monica studied history and maintains an interest in heritage planning.

Scott has worked for over nine years in various Local Governments throughout regional and metropolitan WA. He brings qualifications in both a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning and an MBA, along with completing other professional development courses such as the AIM Emerging Leaders Program.

Stephanie has over a decade of service in local government planning. She leads a statutory planning team responsible for thousands of development applications annually. Her expertise extends to navigating complex regulations and ensuring that all projects align with local policies and standards.
