
WALGA, together with the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) and the WA Electoral Commission, will be hosting an Election Candidate Information webinar ahead of the opening of nominations for the 2025 Local Government Elections.
The webinar will be held at 6:00pm on Monday, 18 August 2025.
This informative session is designed to support individuals considering nomination by providing a clear overview of the election process, the responsibilities of Council Members and Local Governments, and the regulatory role of DLGIRS in Western Australia.
The following presenters will cover a range of topics, with the aim of preparing candidates for the electoral process, and if elected, life as an Elected Member.

- Minister for Local Government; Disability Services; Volunteering; Youth; Gascoyne, the Hon. Hannah Beazley MLA.
- WA Local Government Association President, Karen Chappel AM JP.
- Acting WA Electoral Commissioner Dennis O’Reilly, together with Phillip Richards, Manager Election Events.
- LGIRS Deputy Director General, Erin Gauntlett.
- WALGA Executive Director Member Services, Tony Brown.
There will be an opportunity for participants to engage by asking questions during the session or via email after the session.
Local Governments are encouraged to share details of the webinar through their networks and consider hosting a group viewing for community members who may be interested in nominating.
