  • $1 million in grant funding now available to Local Governments to install or upgrade CCTV cameras

WALGA commends the announcement of $1 million in funding for Local Governments through the State Government’s CCTV Grant Program, supporting safer communities across Western Australia.

The funding will assist Local Governments to install, upgrade and expand closed circuit television (CCTV) systems in public places to improve community safety.

The CCTV Grant Program enables Local Governments to partner with WA Police and community stakeholders to identify priority areas, ensuring investment is directed where it can make the greatest impact and enabling collaboration with WA Police intelligence and responses.

In 2025, WALGA signed an overarching Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with WA Police, establishing the framework for Local Government participation in the CCTV Sharing Scheme. The Scheme enables access to particular Local Government's live CCTV feeds to enable real-time access during a Police Operation - boosting local community safety.

WALGA President Mark Irwin said Local Governments were committed to ensuring community wellbeing through proactive initiatives including integrated community safety programs.

"This is an important initiative and WALGA welcomes the State Government's commitment of $1 million to bolster community safety measures across Western Australian Local Governments," President Irwin said.

"CCTV can play a vital role in supporting Local Government community safety efforts.

"While Local Governments actively contribute to community safety through their own initiatives, collaboration and support from WA Police and the State Government will foster safer and more secure communities.

"WALGA encourages Local Governments to apply for the state-wide CCTV Grant Program to further strengthen community safety.”

Applications for the CCTV Grant Program are now open and close on Monday, 18 May 2026. Eligible Local Governments can apply for a CCTV Grant, please visit: CCTV Grant Program | LGIRS
