As Local Governments across the State support the 16 Days in WA campaign to raise awareness of violence against women, WALGA has revised its advocacy position on family and domestic Violence (FDV).
State Council endorsed the revisions on Friday 6 December to provide a contemporary framework for WALGA advocacy to the Australian and State Government. The renewed advocacy position makes a clear statement on the Local Government sector's condemnation of FDV and the collective responsibility of governments and the community in prevention.
Local Governments can play a role in primary prevention of family and domestic violence through their relationships with State Government agencies and community service providers.
WALGA greatly welcomes the State Government announcement last week of a further $86 million investment on programs to prevent family and domestic violence and hold perpetrators to account.
