WA Bicycle Network (WABN) Grants Program receipients

The State Government has announced projects that have been awarded funding through the WA Bicycle Network (WABN) Grants Program to support Local Governments deliver walking and cycling infrastructure. This initiative enhances connectivity and promotes active transport as a viable and sustainable travel option in communities across WA. The program provides funding covering up to 50% of project costs.

In the Perth Bicycle Network (PBN) stream a total of $6.1 million has been allocated to new projects across five Local Government areas, delivering more than 28 kilometres of new walking and cycling paths. These projects focus on improving connections to METRONET stations, increasing accessibility, and supporting active transport options.
The announcement highlights an additional intake for projects connecting to train stations across metropolitan Perth will open in 2025 providing new opportunities for Local Governments.
In the Regional Bike Network (RBN) Stream more than $16 million has been awarded to 81 new and pre-committed projects across regional WA, which will result in over 140 kilometres of new active transport infrastructure. Funded projects will deliver shared paths and tourist trails in regional cities including Albany, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Bunbury and Karratha, and 24 other centres across all regions., improving essential links between town centres and local amenities.

To further enhance active transport in WA, a new program was announced to support Local Governments in developing bike plans in line with the recently released Planning and Designing for Active Transport in Western Australia: Local Bike Planning Guidance.
