The Strengthening Telecommunications Against Natural Disasters (STAND) program was implemented following the 2019/2020 fire season.
Part of this program saw the deployment of NBN Sky Muster satellite services to evacuation centres and rural fire depots across Australia, with 1,068 services deployed nationally (157 WA sites).
The Commonwealth has recently announced an extension to the STAND Program with an additional ninety-five sites for WA to further enhance telecommunications resilience to communities during emergencies.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services, in consultation with the Department of Communities are facilitating the process of identifying additional community evacuation sites to be including in the project.
To be eligible, sites must be:

registered community emergency evacuation centres
-
with priority provided to regional, remote, or peri-urban locations.

not near an existing STAND site.
WA Local Governments have recently been contacted through WALGA’s Local Government Infrastructure group.
WALGA is encouraging Local Governments, to nominate on sites for inclusion in the program. Nominations close Friday, 19 September.
