Emergency Management

WALGA has created a campaign highlighting the impact of the Emergency Services Levy on rates notices.

The campaign explains that while the ESL is collected as part of the rates notice, it is a State Government revenue source.

This money is used to cover the costs of providing emergency services across the State. Although it forms part of the rates notice, it does not go to the collecting Local Government. Instead, it is returned to the State to fund general expenditure from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, which includes some grants back to particular Local Governments.

This year the levy will increase by 3.35%, which means your rates notice is already larger without any action from Council.
