On Friday 5 April, the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal (SAT) released its latest Local Government Chief Executive Officers and Elected Members Determination.
In summary, the 2024 Determination provides for the following:
-
The Band 4 Total Reward Package (TRP) range has been increased to $150,000 - $230,000 prior to any other increases being applied.
-
A 4% increase in the CEO remuneration bands, in addition to a 0.5% increase in recognition of the recent Federal Government changes to the Superannuation Guarantee.
-
Elected Member attendance fees and annual allowance ranges will be increased by 4%.
Overall, the Determination is in line with WALGA’s submission to SAT late last year, which advocated for a 4% increase for both Elected Member fees and allowances and CEO remuneration bands.
WALGA also advocated for an increase to the Regional/Isolation Allowance (RIA) for Local Governments that are particularly isolated, long distances from population centres, and lacking in amenities.
SAT did not make any changes to the RIA as part of this Determination, however, the Tribunal has increased Band 4 Local Government bands by an additional 7.8% which assists a number of Local Governments who were looking for the isolation allowance to be increased.
The Determination comes into effect on Monday 1 July 2024.
