Congratulations to the Shire of Pingelly, City of Kalamunda and the City of Swan who were recognised as the overall winners of this year's Most Accessible Community Western Australia (MACWA) Awards.
They joined seven other Local Governments who were recognised for their efforts creating accessible and inclusive communities across projects, public open spaces, employment and services and events.

- Review of whole of Local Government’s accessibility, leading to accessible entrance to Shire offices, including new ramps and automatic doors, accessible entrance to Recreation Centre, provision of 5km of accessible footpath, Town hall refurbishment and lift access to Town Hall stage, automatic doors, universally accessible public toilet, handrails throughout the town, and additional ACROD parking bays
- Policy to ensure ongoing accessible enhancements to Local Government
City of Kalamunda's Stirk Park and Magnolia Way Reserves - (4.5/5)
- Notable number of accessible upgrades to two parks, including provision of accessible playground equipment, wide pathways, accessible BBQ and seating, communication board for non-verbal attendees, sensory dome and play boards.
- Notable engagement with the Local Government’s Disability and Carers Advisory Group, local Primary and Secondary Education Support Centres and broader community.
- Future development already underway for universally accessible public toilet.
City of Swan's Accessible Swan Business Initiative - (4.42/5)
- Developed and published a resource that has helped businesses understand the benefits of improving access and inclusion to their businesses and providing guidance to identify and improve barriers for people with disability.
- The initiative has had a far-reaching impact to changing business culture within the boundaries of the City of Swan.
