Hon. Reece Whitby MLA confirms the State Government will develop a Renewable Energy Framework to support Local Goverments and their communities.
WALGA representatives posed a question to the panel at the recent CEDA lunch, WA State of the State – Focus on Mining and Energy, and were encouraged to hear Energy Minister Whitby talk about the need for an renewables engagement framework to be provided, and his interest in working closely with Local Governments as part of this process.
The question was about the development of a community engagement and benefits framework to help guide conversations between developers, Local Government, and communities.
The panels featured the Minister for Energy; Environment and Climate Action Hon. Reece Whitby MLA, and the Minister for Mines and Petroleum Hon. David Michael MLA, as well as the Executive Director of Retail Markets at Alinta Energy and the Head of Decarbonisation at Fortescue.
The Ministers provided insights into the Government’s work across the mining and energy sectors.
WALGA is progressing the development of a scope of works to prepare a community engagement and benefits guide. This scope will be informed by the conversations at this week’s Large Scale Renewable Energy Forum, which will see Local Government, State Government and industry discussing how to maximise the opportunities from the renewable energy transition.
