A Project Noticeboard has been opened for Round 8 of the Mobile Black Spot Program and will close on Friday, 7 February 2025.
Local Governments are encouraged to use the Noticeboard to identify potential projects or locations that are impacted by, or are at risk of, a natural disaster and would benefit from improved mobile connectivity.

During recent Zone meetings Local Government representatives have identified locations where mobile telecommunications are unreliable or not available and have raised concerns about the impact of this on coordination of volunteer fire fighting activities. This is an important opportunity to document these gaps to the Commonwealth Government.
The telcos are encouraged to consider Noticeboard proposals when developing grant funding applications. Consistent with WALGA's advocacy positions, the need for investment to strengthening mobile telecommunications services, forms part of WALGA’s pre-election advocacy at a national level.
Funding from Mobile Black Spot Program Round 8 is focused on regional and remote areas of Australia frequently impacted by, or at risk of, natural disasters. This can include a range of extreme events such as floods, severe storms, bushfires and cyclones. The Eligible Areas are published on the MBSP Round 8 - Eligibility Map and the National Map, with links on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts’ website.
The focus on natural disasters reflects the increasing exposure of many regions to weather and emergency events, and the need for communities to access resilient mobile communications services during and when recovering from these events.
Through this program the Australian Government is providing $55 million to co-fund projects with the telco industry that deliver new and improved mobile coverage and competition in regional and remote areas of Australia that are at risk of natural disasters, to assist during times of emergency. Contributions from state and territory governments are strongly encouraged.
