Federal Government support for State IR Transition

It has been confirmed that the Federal Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations has provided in principle support to transition WA Local Governments and Regional Councils (Local Governments) to the State industrial relations (IR) system.

The date for commencement of the transition (i.e. the 'relevant day' when the State employment legislation will apply to WA Local Governments) has not been formally determined but we encourage all Local Governments to:
  • prepare on the basis that the transition will occur in the near future, and
  • submit any applications for approval of an enterprise agreement to the Fair Work Commission as soon as possible if you are currently renegotiating your agreement.
We have updated our fact sheet summarising the steps for the transition to occur here

For WALGA ER subscribers we are finalising a transition checklist that will be available in our October SIRT Bulletin. Please log in to the WALGA website to view all other SIRT resources.

Last chance to complete a short survey on your Local Government's SIRT training needs

The State Government has asked WALGA to identify specific training courses and workshops that Local Governments are seeking funding for to upskill their staff to prepare for the State IR transition.

We have prepared a short ten-minute survey to seek your feedback. This survey will directly inform WALGA’s advocacy with the State Government. We have only received 25 responses to date so we have extended the closing time to COB Tuesday, 18 October.
