Local Governments are looking forward to a continued collaborative working relationship with the McGowan Government, that brings positive outcomes for the community.

WA Local Government Association President Mayor Tracey Roberts congratulated WA Premier Mark McGowan on returning to State Government, following the Election on Saturday, 13 March 2021.

Mayor Roberts said Local Governments have worked closely with Government, State agencies and Industry over the past year, strongly supporting the State’s COVID-19 response and economic recovery initiatives and would seek to further these activities across the next term of government.

“In his response to the sector’s State Election campaign initiatives, Premier McGowan praised the agility of the Local Government sector in their response to challenges and indicated he was proud of the constructive and valued working relationship with WALGA and Member Local Governments,” Mayor Roberts said.

“We too are proud of all we have been able to achieve together, for the benefit of our communities, and we hope to build on this foundation."

Mayor Roberts said the continuation of the State and Local Government Partnership agreement would further cement the productive relationship between the two spheres of government.

“First signed in 2017, the Partnership Agreement incorporated a communication and consultation protocol that sets out how the two sectors consult and communicate with each other on significant issues,” she said.

“I am looking forward to the renewal of the Partnership Agreement and the continuation of our positive working relationship with the State Government across the many areas in which Local Government contributes to the amenity and wellbeing of local communities.”
