Elected Members are invited to the Shelter WA Homelessness Knowledge Training for Local Government Elected Members.
The training will provide Elected Members with a fundamental understanding of homelessness in WA and how to support prevention and work towards ending homelessness in local communities.
This training will help:
- build knowledge of homelessness - exploring causes and definitions and challenging common misconceptions.
- explore contemporary approaches to ending homelessness in WA
- understand the role of government in preventing and ending homelessness
- consider the role of Elected Members and possibilities in leadership and advocacy
The training is designed and led by Churchill Fellow and Australian expert on Local Government and homelessness, Leanne Mitchell, and delivered with Lived Experience advocates, homelessness sector experts, and experienced Elected Members. The session will focus on practical examples to help Elected Members work with their communities in collaborative efforts to prevent and end homelessness.
Participants in the training will receive a certificate from Shelter WA confirming that they have participated in Homelessness Knowledge Training.
This project is supported by Lotterywest and delivered in collaboration with WALGA.
