  • If elected, the Nationals WA have pledged to double investment in the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) from $20m to $40m per year and develop a 10-year sporting plan for every region.
  • This commitment responds to strong advocacy for an increase to the CSRFF recognising the increasing pressure on community sport and recreation infrastructure and need for a long-term plan.
Yesterday, the Nationals committed that if elected, they will double investment in the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) from $20m to $40m per year, providing a total of $80m over the next four years.

WALGA President Karen Chappel AM JP applauded the announcement recognising it as a strong response to the increased pressures Local Government’s face maintaining critical community infrastructure.

President Chappel stated, "WALGA commends the Nationals' for recognising the need to plan for the future, and through this year-on-year commitment, assist Local Governments to address the recurrent challenge of maintaining investment for sport and community infrastructure.

"Sport has always been at the heart of life in Western Australia and is key to West Australians maintaining an active lifestyle. This commitment ensures we can meet community demand now and into the future.

"Adequate and fit-for-purpose facilities are crucial to ensure Local Governments across the State can provide places where people of all ages, skills and abilities can enjoy the benefits of physical activity and social connection."

Yesterday's announcement also saw the Nationals commit to developing a 10-year sporting plan for every region, strategically guiding investment in sports infrastructure.

"With the State’s population growing and a more diverse range of people participating in sport, we need to make sure every community across WA has access to high quality facilities that meet their needs."

President Chappel commended this commitment and emphasised the importance of Local Government input in the development of these strategies. "Local Governments must be involved in the development of these strategies as they play a major role in planning, developing, and maintaining regional-level sporting facilities.

"With their local area knowledge, Local Governments are crucial stakeholders in securing land, planning, and delivering sports facilities.

"WALGA welcomes this important response to its advocacy and the recognition of the increasing pressure on community sport and recreation infrastructure."
