WALGA Employee Relations provides human resource management and industrial relations support to Local Government members. Our staff have extensive knowledge of contemporary human resources and industrial relations practices, relevant legislation, employment tribunal matters and the Local Government sector, that qualifies them to act as representatives of individual Local Governments and the sector generally.

Subscription

Membership of WALGA Employee Relations is by subscription. This service is available to WA Local Governments, the cost of which is based on the size of the Local Government. WALGA has a formal agreement with Local Government Association Northern Territory (LGANT) to provide industrial relations, employee relations and human resource advice to Northern Territory Local Governments. The large number of subscribers to the service ensures that subscription fees are kept to a minimum, and products and services compare more than favourably with alternate services available in the marketplace.

Subscription Services

Employee Relations provides the following services under the annual subscription to our Local Government Subscribers:

Industrial Advocacy and Representation

Provides a professional negotiation and advocacy service in the Fair Work Commission, WA Industrial Relations Commission and the Equal Opportunity Commission. The service includes preparation, presentation and advocacy representation at most conciliation conferences and formal hearings.

Awards Maintenance Service

Administers the Local Government applicable Awards and represents the Local Government sector when Awards are reviewed. Replacement pages with applicable explanatory notes are provided for all amendments to the Awards.

Employee Relations Advice and Award Interpretation

A telephone and email service is available for advice on employee relations matters including enterprise agreements, awards, performance management and dismissal of employees. Assistance is also provided on the drafting of documentation (letters, reports) to support HR, Managers and Supervisors in the effective management of their employees.

Employee Relations Alerts

Develops and distributes Employee Relations Alerts on a wide range of workplace relations issues relevant to Local Governments. These Alerts are issued by email each year on critical issues varying from current case law to Fair Work Commission rulings. Access to past Alerts is available on our secure internet site.

Remuneration Survey

WALGA are currently reviewing the Remuneration Survey with a view to broadening the scope of the Report and the format in which data is presented. 

Template Policies and Procedures

A number of templates are available that address the basic concepts of human resource procedures and which may be adopted or modified by individual Local Governments to suit their workplace.

Fee For Service

WALGA provides the following services on a fee for service basis.

Enterprise Agreement Negotiations

Assistance is available on a fee for service basis to assist Members with the development of enterprise agreements. This service is particularly helpful when formal negotiations with employee representatives are involved.
