The Municipal Waste Advisory Council, a standing committee of WALGA with delegated authority to represent in all matters relating to solid waste management.
Local Governments actively contribute to the effective management of waste within their communities. They oversee essential functions such as household waste collection, recycling services, the operation of waste facilities, and the implementation of education and awareness programs.

With their profound influence and extensive expertise, the WALGA waste team spearheads both policy and projects addressing a broad spectrum of waste management issues.
Consultation on Draft Circular Economy Advocacy Position
WALGA is seeking Local Government feedback on the draft Circular Economy Advocacy Position.
Transition to a circular economy has the potential to reduce cost of living pressures, maximise use of resources and reduce a range of environmental impacts associated with the manufacture, distribution and post consumption management of products
In drafting the Circular Economy Advocacy Position, WALGA drew on national, international and local circular economy policies and activities to identify the barriers and opportunities to move toward a circular economy in WA. The draft Advocacy Position sets out the actions needed from all levels of Government to change legislation and policies where required, put in place relevant incentives and lead by example.

Priorities
How WALGA supports better outcomes for WA Local Governments
- Advocacy and Representation: WALGA advocates for Local Governments in waste management policy matters, through the development of advocacy positions, submissions and discussion papers on key legislation and policy changes.
- Support Services: We provide a range of support services to assist Local Governments in waste management activities, through facilitating working groups and development of resources in collaboration with State Government and industry.

- WasteSorted Bin Tagging Program
- Better Practice Guidance for a range of waste activities

MWAC coordinates and delivers a variety of projects and programs including Household Hazardous Waste Program, Bin Tagging Program and Better Practice.
Policy Statements and Submissions
On behalf of WALGA, MWAC constantly reviews the waste policies of government and industry as well as actively developing its own waste policies.
