Removal of Mandatory Vaccination Directions for some workforces
The State Government’s Mandatory Vaccination Policy will only apply to workforces working with the most vulnerable community members from Friday, 10 June 2022.
The Government has announced that a range of public health measures will be phased out over the coming weeks.

Only workers in the following sectors will be required to be triple dose vaccinated to enter their work premises:
  • Healthcare and health support workers in hospitals and primary health care settings;
  • Workers in residential aged care; and
  • Workers in residential disability settings.
From June 15, Directions to restrict access to Remote Aboriginal Communities will also be removed.

The changes to Directions giving legal effect to the changed requirements have yet to be released. However, based on the Government’s announcement, WALGA anticipates the following Directions relevant to Local Government will be revoked or amended:
  • Air Services and Border Worker (Restriction on Access) Directions (No 3)
  • Building and Construction Industry Worker (Restriction on Access) Directions (No. 3)
  • Critical Businesses Worker (Restrictions on Access) Directions (No 2)
  • Critical Government Regulator (Restriction on Access) Direction (No 2)
  • Critical Infrastructure Worker (Restriction on Access) Directions (No 2)
  • Education Worker (Restrictions on Access) Directions (No 5)
  • Fire and Emergency Services Worker (Restrictions on Access) Directions (No 3)
  • Meat Industry Worker (Restrictions on Access) Directions (No 2)
  • Port Worker and Exposed Port Worker (Restrictions on Access) Directions (No 2)
  • Public and Commercial Transport Workers (Restrictions on Access) Directions (No 2)
  • Remote Aboriginal Community Worker (Restrictions on Access) Directions.

Managing COVID-19 in the workplace
WA Health has developed Guidance for management of COVID-19 in the workplace, including what to do if an employee tests positive for COVID-19.
The Department of Health have identified that PCR tests, following a positive RAT, will not be provided at public COVID clinics. If an individual or employer seeks a confirmatory PCR, this can only be undertaken at private pathology providers, at a cost.
Depending on how people were tested, evidence of a positive result includes:
  • a text message or email from WA Health (or another State or Territory health department) confirming registration of the person’s positive RAT result.
  • a text message or printout of the person’s positive PCR test result from the pathology clinic.
  • a doctor’s letter confirming the person has been diagnosed with COVID-19, with the date of their infection.
Employees can return to work when they have met their isolation requirements. They do not need to provide evidence of a negative test before returning to work.
