Register for the 2023 WALGA Urban Forest Conference

WALGA's 2023 Urban Forest Conference - Valuing Canopy, will highlight the importance of collaborative approaches between the State Government, Local Government, the private sector and the broader community to improve outcomes for urban forest management in a changing climate.

A broad range of speakers will showcase best practice examples, planning and policy interventions, and latest research to drive meaningful canopy outcomes that add social, environmental and economic value to communities. The conference will take place on Friday, 17 February at Curtin University. Find out more and register here.

New WALGA Biosecurity Policy Position

A new WALGA Biosecurity Policy Position was endorsed by State Council in December 2022, and is available to Local Governments to help guide effective biosecurity management in Western Australia.

Local Government Climate Change Funding Resource

WALGA has developed a resource detailing the various State and Federal funding opportunities available to Local Governments relating to climate change, which can be accessed to assist the sector's mitigation and adaptation efforts.

CoastWA Grants Information Workshop

The 2023/24 CoastWA grant programs are due to open in early February. WALGA will be holding a Grants Information Workshop with the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage and Department of Transport at 10:00am on Tuesday, 21 February.

State Climate Adaptation Strategy to Be Developed

The State Government is preparing a State-wide Climate Adaptation Strategy, to be released later in 2023.  DWER will be engaging with Local Government  during the first-half of 2023 to inform the finalisation of the Strategy.

National Communication on Climate Change 

The Australian Government’s National Communication on Climate Change was recently submitted to the UNFCCC, and provides an update on commitments towards climate change including actions by State, Territory and Local Governments

Emergency Management Grants Update

The State Emergency Management Committee Business Unit has released information about three grant opportunities for 2023, for projects that enhance preparedness and resilience to natural hazards.
 

Draft Basketball Noise Guideline – Request for Comment

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation have developed a Draft Guideline: Minimising noise impact from outdoor community basketball facilities, and are inviting feedback.

Upcoming WALGA Training - Introduction to Waste Management

Learn about identification and segregation of waste and recoverable materials, waste avoidance and education, and behaviour change. The next course will take place on Friday, 10 February 2023. Register here.
