LG Focus: Building a Sustainable City with Recycled Materials
From recycled asphalt to footpaths made with recycled concrete, the City of Swan is pushing ahead with building materials that reduce landfill and demand for non-renewable resources.
The City has engaged local contractor, Eastside Concrete to construct and repair footpaths in The Vines and Ellenbrook, using concrete made from recycled building materials.

The City also recently trialled sustainable asphalt in Whiteman Edge, Jane Brook and Belhus.

As part of the Whiteman Edge trial, every kilometre of a two-way road which uses the asphalt diverts 500,000 plastic bags and plastic containers, 165,000 glass bottles and 2000 printer toners.
200 tonnes of crumb rubber asphalt made from over 250 light truck tyres was laid on West Swan Road in Belhus, while Talbot Road in Jane Brook was resurfaced with 400 tonnes of Plastiphalt, made from approximately 200,000 plastic bags.

For more information, visit the City of Swan website.
Funding for Litter Reduction
The State Government has announced funding for the 2020 Community Litter Grants Program.
The Keep Australia Beautiful Council's (KABC) 2020 Community Litter Grants aim to support projects and initiatives that focus on changing littering behaviour. Community groups, schools and Local Governments are invited to apply for grants of up to $10,000 for major initiatives or regional projects, or $5000 for local area projects.

Successful projects will help to reduce litter at events, sporting and recreation venues, shopping and commercial precincts, roadsides and waterways - and will target the incorrect disposal of cigarette butts and takeaway food containers, and initiatives that reduce litter.

Applications for Community Litter Grants close on Friday, 24 July with successful applicants announced in KAB Week 2020 which runs from Monday, 17 to Sunday, 23 August.

For application guidelines and more information on the grants program, visit the Keep Australia Beautiful website.
