Timeframe Amended for new Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Bill due to COVID-19
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, planned public consultation on the new Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Bill has been put on hold while the State Government, Aboriginal community and key stakeholders focus on the health and wellbeing of the community.
The State Government is currently in the process of drafting the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Bill 2020 which will repeal and replace the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, planned public consultation has now been put on hold.

The State Government remains committed to introducing new Aboriginal heritage legislation that will improve protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage in Western Australia, ensure Aboriginal voices are heard and deliver better outcomes.
The timeline for consultation and introduction of the Bill will be reviewed once COVID-19 has subsided and current travel restrictions have been lifted.
For more information, email the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage.

Vale Jacqui Dodd
WALGA President, State Councillors, CEO and staff offer their condolences to the friends and family of WALGA staff member Jacqui Dodd.
Jacqui led the Association’s Training Team for nearly nine years and was a fun and hardworking team member.

As Training Manager, she managed the day-to-day workings of WALGA’s Registered Training organisation and advocated passionately for the sector in providing industry advice via the Department of Training and Workforce Development and informing the national training agenda through the Industry National Reference Committee.
Outside of work, Jacqui’s passions lay in the water with scuba diving and beach holidays with her husband Les always on the agenda.

Our thoughts are with Jacqui’s friends and family at this time and WALGA staff look forward to celebrating her life when circumstances allow.
Capturing the Ideas of Western Australians
WA Local Governments are being asked to assist in promoting an online innovation platform, iThink, to support the State's COVID-19 response.
All ideas from Western Australians are being sought via the iThink platform to help in the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic response. The platform, including an online community, is open to the public in this State.

Deputy Premier and Health Minister Roger Cook and highly respected surgeon and researcher Professor Fiona Wood AM are firmly behind the iThink initiative. View the video launch here.

The ideas captured by the iThink platform are to be assessed, developed and implemented through a number of State Government led COVID-19 response teams that have been established across government departments.

Professor Wood and the City of Canning are leading a new innovation hub that will explore the ideas submitted through the Staying Well challenge on the platform.
An online promotional pack is available here.
