Prepare Now For Heads of Agencies Meeting

Online bookings for WALGA's Heads of Agencies meeting with State Government leaders to be hosted at Crown Perth on June 1 will open on Friday.

The Heads of Agencies Breakfast is a key part of WALGA’s advocacy to State Government and provides Local Governments with a valuable opportunity to discuss issues of importance to your communities directly with key State Government decision-makers.

A list of the 13 Heads of Agencies attending can be found here.

Local Government representatives can meet with one Head of Agency and spots will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. Up to three other Heads can be listed in your application should your preferred meeting be fully booked.

The following information will be required when booking:

  • Who will represent your Local Government
  • Head/s of Agency you want to meet
  • Topics you would like to discuss (including a brief background).

Local Governments are encouraged to spend this week planning responses to the above questions to be prepared when bookings open

Survey to Shape Training Industry Priorities

Local Governments are invited to complete the 2023 WA Jobs, Education and Training Industry and Regional Stakeholder Survey.

The 10 minute survey will assist the Department of Training and Workforce Development gain a better understanding of workforce and skills needs.

This will help shape prioritisation of training, migration, infrastructure planning and other workforce initiatives.

The survey is open until April 21.

The Economic Regulation Authority has agreed changes to the Western Power Access Arrangement are needed following years of advocacy by WALGA.

The new Access Arrangement taking effect from July 1 requires Western Power consult on and publish a Public Lighting Strategy at least annually. 

It will also be required to independently test lighting performance prior to introducing new technology, such as screw in LED globes.

These changes are important steps responding to WALGA advocacy seeking energy efficient, fit for purpose street lighting.

Disability Legislation Reform Consultation

WALGA and the Department of Communities will deliver two consultation sessions on proposed reforms to WA’s disability services legislation.

New Salaries and Allowances Determination

On April 6 the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal released its latest Local Government Chief Executive Officers and Elected Members Determination.
 
The Determination comes into operation on July 1 and provides the following:
  • A 3.5% increase in the CEO remuneration bands.
  • The Regional/Isolation Allowance rates for CEOs will be increased by varying amounts up to a maximum of $10,000.
  • Elected Member attendance fees and annual allowance ranges will be increased by 1.5%, rounded to the nearest $5.
  • The annual allowance for Elected Member travel and accommodation expenses will be increased to $100.
  • Clarification on the Elected Member allowance for ICT expenses.
