Dates Revealed for 2023 WALGA Convention

WALGA's 2023 Local Government Convention will be held at Crown Perth from September 18 to 19.

Join more than 400 senior representatives from WA Local Governments at the premier event for the sector, where delegates hear from and question a wide range of speakers, are challenged in their thinking, and collaborate with colleagues and key stakeholders.

The WALGA Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Monday afternoon.

Look out for more information about keynote speakers, registration details and an exciting additional event to be held adjacent to the Convention in coming weeks.

Save the Date: Heads of Agency Breakfast

The next Heads of Agency breakfast is on June 1 at Crown Perth.

WALGA hosts a breakfast with State Government Heads of Agency twice a year to give Local Governments the opportunity to discuss issues of importance to their communities with the most senior decision makers in State Government departments.

Information on which Heads of Agency will be in attendance will be released shortly. Local Governments can nominate who they would like to meet and the issues they want to raise.

Mayors and Presidents will be invited by WALGA President Karen Chappel to attend a forum following the breakfast.

Regional Local Governments have had a win, with Western Power now providing a standard connection service capacity of 63-amps for small-use, single-phase (240V) connections regardless of location.

The prior 32-amp cutoff in regional WA limited the ability for residents outside of the metropolitan area to install appliances such as air-conditioners, solar panels and EV chargers.

Following advocacy by WALGA and regional Local Governments, Western Power trialed the higher service capacity in seven Local Governments, which has now resulted in the decision to reduce capacity in regional areas being reversed.
