Optional Preferential Voting Webinar

The WAEC will conduct a webinar of the Counting Process for the 2023 Local Government Elections on 25th May at 10.30am.
 
This is the second in a series of workshops to raise Local Government awareness and preparedness for the October 2023 elections.

The hour-long Counting Process webinar will be presented by a Senior WAEC staff member and an experienced WAEC-appointed Returning Officer. The focus will be on the operations of the count in relation to Optional Preferential Voting, and operational planning. To register, please go to the link here  

Further awareness raising and election participation activities will be arranged in the lead up to the October 2023 elections.

A free forum for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds considering running for Council will be hosted by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation in June.

The forum will help potential candidates learn about the role and responsibilities of Councillors and how to become a candidate.

Local Government Minister John Carey will introduce the forum, which will feature a panel of serving Councillors from CaLD backgrounds.

WALGA and the Australian Flexible Pavement Association will host a free webinar on the use of crumb rubber in asphalt and spray seal applications on roads.

The new State Road Funds to Local Government Agreement includes a commitment to increase the use of recycled materials in Local Government road works.

With additional funding by the State Government to support tyre recycling, supplies of crumb rubber will become more readily available over the next few years.

Structured as a series of short presentations and a panel discussion, this webinar will provide information from industry experts and Local Government practitioners.

Entries Open for Showcase in Pixels 2023

Expressions of Interest for the 2023 Showcase in Pixels competition are now open.
 
The annual exhibition sees artwork from Local Governments displayed on the digital tower at Yagan Square in Perth.
 
Councils interested in participating this year must submit an expressions of interest by June 15. Artwork is due by August 10 for display on the tower in September.
 
Expressions of interest can be submitted to communications@walga.asn.au and full competition details are available in the information pack below.

Local Govt Honours Program

Nominations for the 2023 Local Government Honours Program are now open.

The Honours Program recognises and celebrates the outstanding achievements and lasting contributions made by Elected Members and employees to their respective Councils, the Local Government sector and the wider community.
