Two Weeks To Go Until WALGA's Transport and Roads Forum

We have two weeks to go until WALGA's annual Transport and Roads Forum which provides valuable insight into the future of our State's 128,000km Local Government road network and 16,000km of paths.

RAC WA Social and Community Impact Group Executive Pat Walker will be among the speakers taking part in a concurrent session on Road Safety.

RAC is working with the City of Busselton and Shire of Augusta Margaret River to undertake a safer speeds trial project which aims to take a holistic and coordinated approach to speed limit reductions which encourage safer speeds across the local government area.

Urban Canopy Plight Thrust into Limelight

ABC's report on the Urban Forest Conference
What a bumper day it was on Friday, where nearly 350 people turned up to hear about the challenges facing WA's urban canopy, and the ideas to turn the tide.

There was a clear message from the WALGA Urban Forest Conference that protecting and improving our urban forest is a priority which requires strong State policy to support the good work Local Governments are already doing in this space.

This is backed by WALGA's
State Budget submission which is calling on the WA Government to fund the planting of 60,000 trees through a $20 million commitment over four years.

The Conference made ABC's Friday night TV news bulletin and was covered in-depth
online here.

WALGA is preparing an online conference hub to ensure information and ideas shared at the event can be accessed by attendees, the public and policymakers as we continue to advocate for change.

Grants Open for EV Charging Stations

Local Governments can apply for the WA Government's new EV Charging Station grants program launched last week.

Round one of the $15m package will make $3.75m available to Local Governments, non-profits and small and medium businesses to purchase and install public EV chargers.

The grants will cover about half of the cost of purchase and install, and 75 per cent of the cost of a two-year smart charging software subscription.

Events Around Ningaloo Eclipse

The eclipse is the main drawcard for tourists to the North West in April, but it isn't the only game in town.

Exmouth, Carnarvon and Onslow will hold events ranging from multi-day festivals to gourmet dinners on and around the day of the solar eclipse. Details can be found here.

Many Mid West and Gascoyne towns will also be hosting events for the cavalcade hoping to witness the eclipse.

If you're heading that way, it is worth a quick look over the Facebook pages and websites of Shires on the route you're taking.
